John Simson leads the Scholarships fundraising committee and over $4,000,000 has been committed to Scholarships since the beginning of our campaign. There is a long way to go, with aspirations of raising a very significant sum for Scholarships over the coming years. The first events in support of Scholarships will be held later this year.
Scholarships funded thus far include the Lee Hysan Foundation Scholarship, Will Paterson Scholarship, Gailey Lazarus Indigenous Scholarship, Ranken Family Scholarship, Smith Family Scholarship, John Peter Alston Wallace Scholarship, Sevior Family Scholarship, Michael Collins Persse Scholarship, Helen MacPherson Smith Indigenous Day Student Scholarship, the John Emmerson Toorak Scholarship, the John Emmerson Corio Scholarship and the Pope Family Scholarship. Other Scholarships have been indicated to the Foundation as coming shortly, while others such as the Dick Crummer Scholarship have been funded again for a further period.
While $250,000 is the minimum sum required to establish a named Scholarship in perpetuity, some members of our community are keen to provide smaller sums towards scholarships (and we have a fund for that purpose). Others again can explore the possibility of funding a Scholarship at an annual amount ($10,000 or more) and then provide for the long term continuation of the Scholarship by way of a bequest.
