INTRODUCING THE BIDDLECOMBE SOCIETY

Ever since the School was founded in 1855, it has been developed and sustained by generation to generation of philanthropic support. Some families have established scholarships and prizes, whilst others have directed their gifts in a variety of other ways to benefit the School.

The Biddlecombe Society honours and recognises, during their lifetime, those who have decided to provide a Bequest in their Will to the Geelong Grammar Foundation as an enduring way of supporting the future of the School.

The history of giving at Geelong Grammar School is remarkable. From the parents of schoolboys in 1855 who raised £3,000 for the School; to the Falkiner brothers who donated the Chapel of All Saints in 1914; to the 2005 contribution of the Austin family enabling the complete refurbishment of the Library at Bostock House; to our recent achievements of the Handbury Centre for Wellbeing and the Glamorgan Centre at our Toorak Campus.

In 2002 the Geelong Grammar Foundation, with the support of the School Council and the Principal, launched the Biddlecombe Society, commemorating one of our first benefactors - Commander Biddlecombe and his wife Janet, who provided six Masters' residences at Corio between 1920 and 1925.
