Using your core values to drive your thinking and decision making

The wellbeing of teachers is central to creating a positive school culture. In Australia, the stress levels of teachers and school leaders are amongst the highest of any profession. Constant pressures, feelings of stress, frustration, disappointment, fear, anxiety and sadness can build up and have a detrimental impact on the lives of teachers and school communities.

The goal of this one-day course is to help you discover, learn and practice an evidence-based set of skills and techniques specifically designed to help you better manage inevitable stressors. Through Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT) and Mindfulness, you will discover how to better manage the challenges and demands that impact your health and wellbeing.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

  • Understand how your unique set of values drives behaviour
  • Gain ideas on how you can handle stress more effectively by applying mindful awareness and acceptance of emotional experience - rather than avoidance
  • Learn examples of how connecting with and acting in line with core values can support colleagues, inform leadership decisions, and enhance psychological flexibility in classroom practice
  • Develop specific skills on how to be less reactive to situations and unhelpful thinking patterns.

You will receive a booklet that includes a research summary, examples and activities to practice values-based stress management techniques.
