OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE SPACE

More than 700 guests gathered at the School's Corio campus for the official opening of the School for Performing Arts and Creative Education (the SPACE) on Saturday 23 May.

The opening of the SPACE - the culmination of a concerted fundraising effort led by Ian Darling (P'79) and the Geelong Grammar Foundation - showcased the School's Drama, Music and Visual Arts departments in their new home. Music students performed in the David Darling Play House and surrounding classrooms, Drama found its place in the Bracebridge Wilson Studio and Multi-Purpose Room, while the Foyer proved the perfect setting for our Visual Arts students to create their own virtual Bajoran wormhole.

The David Darling Play House later played host to the Opening Ceremony, which featured speeches from Principal Stephen Meek, Chairman of Council Jeremy Kirkwood (FB'79) and School Captains Freya Johnson (Yr12 He) and Don Ritchie (Yr12 P), among others, to mark the occasion.

Principal Meek took the opportunity to thank those who have given generously to the new creative hub for the Geelong Grammar School community. "The SPACE symbolises the School's commitment to creativity in education by providing a learning environment that stimulates collaboration and nurtures innovation."

"The world needs new ideas and we want to encourage our students, whoever they are, wherever they may be, to find new and innovative ways of doing things."
