GGS HOSTS ANNUAL PESA CONFERENCE

Our Corio Campus was the venue and our Institute of Positive Education the hosts as the largest Positive Education Schools Association conference in the organisation's history took place between 11-14 April. More than 800 educators and leaders in the field of Positive Education attended the annual conference, which featured keynote presentations from the founding father of Positive Psychology, Martin Seligman, author/ comedian Anh Do, Emily Larsen, Dr Alejandro Adler, Professor Lea Waters and many more.

The PESA Conference coincides with the celebration of a decade of Positive Education at Geelong Grammar School. Hosting the conference was viewed as another opportunity to increase awareness around student mental ill health and to promote student flourishing.

The timing of the conference - falling in the last week of the term break - meant that over 400 attendees were able to stay on campus in the boarding houses, giving them access to the Handbury Centre for Wellbeing and other school facilities. The school grounds were utilised for workshops throughout the three days, with the Equestrian Centre and Music School garden providing the backdrop for many mindful moments.

PESA was established in 2014 and serves more than 1,200 members across Australia and overseas. PESA Chairman Simon Murray opened this year's conference alongside Victorian Minister for Education, James Merlino. Simon closed the conference alongside the School's new Principal, Rebecca Cody, in what was one of Rebecca's first official duties as Principal of Geelong Grammar School.
