Throughout the pandemic, our School has prioritised the safety, health and wellbeing of our students, staff and their families.

Our decision-making has been contemplated deeply, and with due consideration of what is in the best interests of our community, especially given its unique, predominantly residential context as Australia’s largest coeducational boarding school, with a student composition representing every state and territory, as well as 16 overseas countries. We are committed to adapting our teaching and learning to reflect the needs of our learning community.

Recent Statements

The School endeavours to communicate swiftly and accurately with our community as the COVID-19 situation evolves and as information is provided by the Victorian Government. The Recent Statements section of the School website continues to be refreshed with COVID-19 Updates; we encourage you to check this page regularly for the most recent information from GGS.

Maintaining Wellbeing throughout Remote Learning

During the repeated periods of Remote Learning, our School has maintained a proactive approach to student wellbeing, responding to the unique needs of our students and their families. This approach prioritises:

  • strategies which support community connection and belonging;
  • the provision of community resources which support health, wellbeing and learning; and
  • increased support for vulnerable students through our pastoral structures and counselling services.

The Reconnect GGS microsite was developed as one of many approaches to encourage student wellbeing. This site offers a range of wellbeing activities for individuals or groups, including yoga and meditation practices, brain breaks, activities for cultivating character strengths and other helpful wellbeing practices.

Risk Mitigation and Health Questionnaire

We continue to evolve our wide-reaching risk mitigation steps in response to COVID-19 to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. These measures will be campus-specific and will include an emphasis on spatial distancing, excellent hygiene practices, the completion of our Daily COVID-19 Health Questionnaire, temperature checks and the wearing of face coverings/masks as appropriate (e.g. in classrooms at Corio, on buses and other public/shared transport and in circumstances where spatial distancing requirements cannot be met). These are published to parents and students via the HIVE (parent portal) and Recent Statements.

To keep our students, staff and School community safe, we are following the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) guidelines and require all students and staff to self-assess for COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors each day before entering the campus.
