Geelong Grammar School fosters academic excellence by offering students with strong academic skills the opportunity to participate in our challenging curriculum.
Academic Scholarships are offered for
- Corio Campus – Years 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11
- Timbertop – Year 9
- Current Geelong Grammar School students are ineligible to apply in Year 10.
Eligibility, examinations and interviews
Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa, who are entering the relevant year level.
The School uses examination papers set by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
Applications for 2018 are now closed.
On examination day
Examinations will be held on Saturday 25 February 2017.
Please arrive at the school no later than 8.15am for registration.
Your child should bring;
• Two biros or pens
• Two HB or B pencils
• An eraser
There will be a short break for morning tea at 10.10am. The second half of the exam will begin at 10.30am. The test will be completed by 12 noon. Students will not be permitted to leave until all exam papers have been collected.
You are welcome to stay on campus whilst the examination takes place. Tours will be available to families new to the School, which you are welcome to join. Academic staff will also be available on the day to answer any questions you may have.
Alternative locations can be arranged for candidates who live in remote, interstate or overseas locations, details of which will be forwarded by ACER after the application has been received.
Shortlisted students will be asked to attend an interview at the School.
Note: If a student currently holds a scholarship at another school, this should be disclosed at the interview stage of the application.
Scholarships will be offered as soon as possible after the interview.
All awards are reviewed annually.
Current Geelong Grammar School students are ineligible to apply in Year 10.
What does an academic scholarship cover?
Each year the School awards a number of academic scholarships of up to 50% of the tuition and day or boarding fees; the actual percentage offered depends on the performance of the individual candidate in both the examination and, if shortlisted, the subsequent scholar's interview. Awards of over 50% are made in exceptional circumstances. In such cases, parents will be asked to complete a financial assessment form.
The scholarship awarded applies to the relevant Geelong Grammar School fee, but not to uniforms, private music lessons, text books, excursions, sundry charges or other personal items.
