CHORAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Choir of Geelong Grammar School is an auditioned choir of approximately 30-50 Senior School students and includes staff. The Choir sings regularly for Sunday Chapel and other Chapel Services, and concerts. The music performed includes religious and non-religious music and covers many musical styles, from all periods of classical music to gospel, jazz and folk.

In addition to learning many pieces of music, choristers also learn how to use their voices; each rehearsal is a group-singing lesson.

Not only great fun, being in the Choir is immensely rewarding. The standard is high and choristers find that they make great individual progress.

We are pleased to offer Choral Scholarships for:

• Corio Campus – New and Current students entering Years 10 and 11

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa. Full-fee paying overseas students or Temporary Residents are ineligible to apply.

Applicants should have previous choral or vocal experience, be musically literate and have a love of singing.

Successful applicants must abide by the Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship.

WHAT DOES A CHORAL SCHOLARSHIP OFFER?

A Choral Scholarships is a particularly prestigious scholarship to hold. The financial value of the scholarship is not significant; it is the kudos that is most valuable.

AUDITIONS

Following the submission of an application, the Music Department will be in contact to arrange an audition for the candidate, during the month of February, to be held at the Corio Campus.

Where circumstance prevents a live audition (preferred), a remote audition will be made available through Zoom. Candidates undertaking a remote audition through Zoom will need to use an external USB condenser microphone (high quality) and will need to ensure that both ‘high fidelity mode’ and ‘stereo mode’ are switched on, click here for a tutorial. These settings have been specifically designed by Zoom for instrumental lessons and auditions and are crucial to ensure an equitable audition process.

Music scholarships are awarded to students with previous choral or vocal experience and have a love of singing.

  • New students into Year 10 and 11 in 2023
  • Current students into Year 10 and 11 in 2023
  • Must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa.
  • Successful applicants must abide by the Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship.

    Student selection is based on audition and interview.

    A Choral Scholarship is a particularly prestigious scholarship to hold. The financial value of the scholarship is not significant, more so it is the experience of singing in the School Choir at the highest level that is deemed most valuable.
