OVERVIEW

The GGS Equestrian team has had a momentous year in 2013 and should be proud of their achievements. The team may have been small but they were a strong group of competitors that made their presence felt at all competitions that they attended, not only by their success but by the way they conducted themselves and supported each other. The support group can be justifiably proud of the rider's sportsmanship and achievements. Although runner up again in the VEIS competition the margin was small: three (3) points!

The opening of The David William Robert Knox Indoor Riding Centre was an exciting time for the Equestrian community as it moved into another phase with even stronger school and community support. The students are now enjoying world class facilities and the opportunity to train in all weather conditions and at different times of the day and night.

All three Olympic disciplines are taught at GGS with various instructors attending the school and clinics being held throughout the year.

A cross-country training course has been built in the adjacent plantation; this includes a water jump, roll tops and other training jumps (max grade 2 height).

Students may compete throughout the year in the Victorian Equestrian Interschool Series, (Dressage, Show jumping and Eventing), the top two riders in each division/section will qualify for the National Interschool Competition at the end of the year.

The Geelong Grammar Pony Club is conducted from the GGS Equestrian Centre in which rallies are held once a month during term time only. This enables students to complete in the Pony club competitions as well as Interschool. If students are not riding as a sport they may ride as an activity, we have many trail rides around Limeburner's Bay.

The GGS Equestrian Centre enables students who love riding for competition or pleasure in all disciplines to continue their passion while they are at school. It is a wonderful opportunity for those passionate about horsemanship to enhance their equestrian skills while they are boarding.

To select Equestrian as sporting pursuit at the School students must house their own horse at Corio and, although there is both a summer and a winter season for Equestrian, students cannot take part in both.

Formal training must be undertaken, and can be arranged through Marina Oman on 0438 739 377.
