Academic scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional academic potential who demonstrate excellence across a broad range of disciplines.

To be eligible for an Academic scholarship at Geelong Grammar School, applicants must be:

  • a new student entering into Years 9 or 10, or
  • a current student entering into Years 9 or 10.

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa.

Student selection is based on academic examination results and, if shortlisted, subsequent interviews.

Successful candidates will be eager to participate in the wide range of opportunities available at the School, respecting the philosophy and rules that govern the School.

  • Up to 50% of the day or boarding fees; may vary depending on the individual.
  • Awards of over 50% are made in exceptional circumstances. In such cases, parents will be asked to complete a financial assessment form.
  • The scholarship awarded applies to the relevant Geelong Grammar School day or boarding fee, but not to uniforms, private vocal or instrumental lessons, textbooks, excursions, sundry charges or other personal items.

  • Applications open: Monday 30 October 2023
  • Applications close: Friday 2 February 2024
  • Scholarship examination: Saturday 24 February 2024
  • First round interviews: April 2024
  • Second round interviews (if required): May-June 2024
  • Outcomes: Scholarship outcomes communicated to families by June 2024

 

Following the examination, shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview (via Zoom) with the Admissions Manager and Heads of School.

Interviews will occur March-April; all candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application as soon as practical.

There are two steps in the application process that must be completed before the closing date.

STEP 1: Register your child for the Academic Scholarship examination via the Edutest link which will be made available once the programme opens. Please keep a record of the Edutest Reference Number, you will need this for Step 2.

STEP 2: Complete the GGS enrolment application form via https://www.ggs.vic.edu.au/apply  You will be asked to provide the Edutest Reference Number from Step 1. If you have previously submitted a GGS online application or are a current student, you do not need to complete Step 1, please register in Step 1 only.

Note: Please ensure that you register for the correct examination that corresponds to the scholarship you are applying for. To do this, make sure you are on the appropriate scholarship webpage (Academic, General Excellence, or Music), and click the examination link provided on that page.
