The Choir of Geelong Grammar School is an auditioned choir of approximately 30-50 Senior School students and includes staff. The Choir sings regularly for Sunday Chapel and other Chapel Services, and concerts. The music performed includes religious and non-religious music and covers many musical styles, from all periods of classical music to gospel, jazz and folk.

In addition to learning many pieces of music, choristers also learn how to use their voices; each rehearsal is a group-singing lesson. Not only great fun, being in the Choir is immensely rewarding. The standard is high and choristers find that they make great individual progress.

Music scholarships are awarded to students with previous choral or vocal experience and have a love of singing.

To be eligible for a Choral scholarship at Geelong Grammar School, applicants must be:

  • a new student entering into Year 10 and 11
  • a current student entering into Year 10 and 11
  • Must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Resident Visa.

Successful applicants must abide by the Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship.

Student selection is based on audition and interview.

A Choral Scholarships is a particularly prestigious scholarship to hold. The financial value of the scholarship is not significant, more so it is the experience of singing in the School Choir at the highest level that is deemed most valuable.

Auditions are in February, the Music Department will be in contact to arrange an audition for candidates.

Where circumstance prevents a live audition (preferred), a remote audition will be made available through Zoom. Candidates undertaking a remote audition through Zoom will need to use an external USB condenser microphone (high quality) and will need to ensure that both ‘high fidelity mode’ and ‘stereo mode’ are enabled. Further details will be provided by the Music Department.
