Sport plays a significant role in the life of Geelong Grammar School.

Australian Rules Football is played by over 200 students at GGS each winter. The GGS Football programme supports students to develop critical life skills of responsibility, teamwork, leadership and resilience.

Since the School’s inaugural season in 1868, we have produced a significant number of successful AFL/AFLW/VFL players; in the past six years, 17 Old Geelong Grammarians have been drafted by AFL/AFLW clubs. In recent decades, many of these talented sportspeople were supported on their journey through the School with a Sports Scholarship.

The GGS Football Scholarship Fund has been established to further the ambitions of Football at GGS.

Football Scholarships are critical to ensuring talented male and female footballers have the opportunity of an Exceptional Education at our School, and to the enrichment of our Football programme for the benefit of all. They are awarded to gifted footballers who show exceptional sporting promise at an elite level and who could not attend GGS without financial assistance.

In recognising the critical role scholarships can play in developing talented individuals and supporting positive outcomes for all players, the GGS Football Support Group has committed to a contribution of $150,000 to kick off GGS Football Scholarship fundraising for 2023.

We are reaching out to our 5,000+ strong army of current and past GGS Football Community members for support. Every tax deductible donation will help.
