“The opportunity at Geelong Grammar completely changed my life… It changes the way you look at how you can help people. My life is changed, and I hope to carry on the legacy and the message that helping people changes lives.”
Sunny Handy (M’20), Hartley Mitchell Scholarship
We are immensely proud of our Indigenous Programme, which is not just about the education of Indigenous scholarship students, but about the education of every person in our School community.
With the support of generous donors, including Yalari, we are able to provide scholarships to Indigenous students from communities across Australia.
Starting with just one student in 2006, nearly 100 Indigenous students have studied or are still studying at Geelong Grammar School, including a record eight Year 12 graduates in 2020.
In 2023, we had 24 Indigenous students across our campuses, the majority from Victoria.
“I am living in two worlds but it’s the best of both worlds. I’m living in a world of opportunity and education and fulfilment and purpose. I can speak on behalf of Aboriginal people in a majority non-Indigenous space.”
