General Excellence scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate sound academic attitude and achievement; exemplary work ethic and character; and all-round ability and enthusiasm across a broad range of disciplines. General Excellence scholarships are available for both boarding and day students.

General Excellence scholarships are means-tested and shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide financial information for their application to be considered.

Old Geelong Grammarians Scholarship

The School awards these scholarships to new students whose parents or grandparents are alumni (Geelong Grammar, The Hermitage or Clyde schools) and wish to attend Geelong Grammar School but who could not do so without financial assistance. As part of the General Excellence programme, these scholarships are offered for students entering from Year 5 to Year 11.

To be eligible for a General Excellence scholarship at Geelong Grammar School, applicants must be:

  • a new student entering into Year 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11 and who is not eligible for any other concession for boarding and tuition fees including associate discount; or
  • a current student entering into Year 7 and cannot be receiving any other concession for boarding and tuition fees including associate discount.

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or holders of an Australian Permanent Residence Visa.

General Excellence Scholarships are offered to students who could not otherwise attend Geelong Grammar School without financial assistance. Candidates should demonstrate:

  • sound academic attitude and achievement;
  • an exemplary work ethic;
  • participation in sport and co-curricular activities;
  • social awareness; and
  • leadership, service and commitment to making a positive difference.

Successful candidates will be eager to participate in the wide range of opportunities available at the School, respecting the philosophy and rules that govern the School.

Following the examination, parents of shortlisted students will be asked to provide personal financial information to support the scholarship application. Unfortunately, applications without financial information cannot be considered.

The value of a General Excellence Scholarship may be up to the value of 75% of day or boarding fees. The scholarship awarded applies to the relevant Geelong Grammar School day or boarding fee, but not to uniforms, private vocal or instrumental lessons, textbooks, excursions, sundry charges or other personal items.
