Nominations are now open for the sixth Geelong Grammar School Medal for Service to Society.
The Geelong Grammar School Medal for Service to Society is the highest honour the School and our Foundation can bestow. It was established in 2014 to recognise people who, by way of the excellence of their achievements, have made sustained contributions to the betterment of society within Australia or elsewhere.
The Medal was most recently awarded to long-serving UNICEF child protection and human rights campaigner, Amanda Bissex (A’87), in 2024. Amanda was the fifth recipient of the medal, joining philanthropist Tim Fairfax AC (M’64), Papua New Guinea obstetrician and maternal health advocate Professor Glen Liddell-Mola (M’64), human rights and refugee protection lawyer Dr Eve Lester (Fr’81) and Thai health and education activist Mechai Viravaidya (P’59).

Nominations close on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
The Medal for Service to Society will be awarded at the biennial Geelong Grammar School & Geelong Grammar Foundation Black Tie Dinner, which incorporates the James R. Darling Memorial Oration. The 2026 dinner will take place in the Great Hall at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) on Friday 29 May.
Any Old Geelong Grammarian, Past/Current Parent or Past/Current Staff can nominate someone for the Medal for Service to Society.
Nominees should have made sustained contributions to the betterment of society via their contributions in the worlds of music, sport, science, business, education, community development and/or other areas of human endeavour.
While the Medal has previously only been awarded to past students of Geelong Grammar School, it may be awarded to other individuals who, in the opinion of the Medal for Service to Society Committee, are deserving of this honour.
People in paid employment at the School or holding recognised public voluntary positions associated with the School may not be nominated until they no longer hold such paid or voluntary roles.
