Bostock House cares for the learning and wellbeing of primary-aged children from ELC to Year 4. When you join Bostock House, you are welcomed into a warm, vibrant and big-hearted community of students, parents and educators.

We believe that a meaningful education is one that engages a child’s hands, heart and mind. Our students, including those in the ELC, experience a broad range of positive learning opportunities; music, drama, language, arts, sport, leadership, cultural, social and community-based activities, allowing students to feel connected, engaged and challenged in ways that extend beyond core academics.

Learning Framework

Our School has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 1997.  In 2019, we became a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at our Primary campuses in Newtown and Corio, and are pursuing authorization as an IB World School. *Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems and is designed to stimulate curiosity and inquiry in order to foster a spirit of discovery and enjoyment of learning. Through the PYP, our talented educators challenge students to stretch their imaginations, to think curiously, creatively and critically, and contribute positively to the global community.

Supporting every individual

Our learning communities are designed so that every student is challenged, encouraged, and supported along their own individual learning path. Through the PYP, we bring a contemporary structure to our teaching and learning that is growth orientated and supports every young learner to develop and pursue appropriate learning goals. Our caring educators are experienced in using differentiated teaching strategies that encourages, inspires and tracks learning in every student. Students requiring additional support, or extension, have the opportunity to attend inclusive learning lessons and are supported inclusively in the class setting.

Positive Education

As a School, we prioritise student wellbeing and want all our young people to be deeply well. Positive Education is at the forefront of all our teaching and learning at Bostock House, through self-knowledge, positivity, leadership and teamwork, kindness, curiosity, flow, physical wellbeing, gratitude, forgiveness and resilience activities.

Through these experiences, as we aim to develop in our students the skills, attitudes and mindset to proactively manage their wellbeing and flourish.

Wellbeing and Positive Education

Specialist Programme

Students enjoy a dynamic and holistic programme of exceptional learning experiences across the core and specialist curriculum. Our specialist programme ensures all aspects of our young learners growth are supported, nurtured and developed.

Drama, Music and Visual Arts are a vibrant addition and vital component of the curriculum. Students learn ways of experiencing, developing, presenting and understanding ideas, emotions, values and cultural beliefs. They learn to take risks, be imaginative and develop self-confidence. Individual music tuition is also offered to students during the school day.

Students learn about technology as well as learn through technology and have access to devices such as iPads and notebooks. Promoting responsible and ethical digital citizenship is a fundamental part of the students’ learning. The weekly Coding Club provides further opportunity for student involvement.

Additional language learning is a fundamental part of the PYP curriculum allowing students to develop the love of an additional language and to build cultural understandings associated with the study of the Chinese culture and lifestyle.

Our Library programme is a central component of the PYP allowing students to develop information skills, strategies and an appreciation of language and literature that will assist them to become informed decision makers and lifelong learners. Students enjoy unlimited access to an extensive, contemporary literature collection, ‘Browse and Borrow’ sessions and engaging experiences with visiting authors.

Through Physical Education, students work to increase their knowledge and skills and to develop positive beliefs, attitudes and values about physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. All students participate in fundamental motor skill sessions and activities on a weekly basis. Students in Year 3 and Year 4 participate in weekly Sport sessions that involve applying their physical education skills in game situations. All students participate in annual sporting events such as swimming lessons, House sport events, and the whole school Athletics Day.

Christian values and concepts such as love, honesty, friendship and sharing are incorporated into all aspects of our daily life. Each term, students attend church services at All Saints Church, Newtown and will visit the Chapel of All Saints at Corio Campus at times through the year.

Students develop a deeper understanding of our core values of courage, compassion and curiosity.

Deepening cultural understanding

As a School, we recognise our responsibility in educating our children about Australia’s cultural heritage and Indigenous perspective. Our educators work closely with our Indigenous liaison officer to provide meaningful learning in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, traditions, histories and experiences. This can encompass all subject areas through a combination of classroom learning, projects, incursions, excursions and co-curricular activities.

Early Learning Centre

Nurturing and supportive, our ELC offers a full day programme for children aged three to five years. Guided by the Reggio Emilia Approach and PYP framework, our dedicated educators support each child in harnessing their natural curiosity and stimulating a love of learning. The ELC curriculum is enhanced by a vibrant Specialist Programme which includes Art, Library, Mandarin, Perceptual Motor Programme (Physical Education for young learners) and Performing Arts.

Transition into Year 5 – Corio Campus

We encourage a positive transition for students moving from Bostock House to Middle School through a well developed orientation programme, including student visits to Corio Campus and various initiatives to drive connectedness and familiarisation.
