UK-based architect and educator Sho Ito (P’07) will be our first Richard and Janet Southby Visiting Fellow of 2024 with an exhibition and presentation exploring how our natural resources are being commodified.

Sho is the founder of Studio ITO: Interdisciplinary Thought Operations and teaches at both London’s Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) and the University of Westminster. Sho studied art and design at the prestigious University of Arts London (ual:) before completing a Diploma Programme (MArch) at AA and graduating with the Norman Foster + Partners Architectural Prize. He has worked at Rogers Stirk Harbour+Partner, dRMM (de Rike, Marsh, Morgan) and AHMM (Allford Hall Monaghan Morris) in the UK and was a Design Fellow at the University of Cambridge.

Sho is in Australia to present a series of exhibitions and public lectures entitled ‘Nature’s Treasures: Celebrating Earth’s Natural Resources’, which explores how our natural resources are being commodified and politicised, with specific reference to the role of architects and architecture in the efficient use of limited resources. On his return to Corio, Sho will also talk about his time at GGS, studying in the UK, and his practice as an architect and university lecturer.

Date: Friday 19 April

Exhibition: 6.30pm, Hirschfeld-Mack Centre

Public Lecture: 7.30pm, Cook Theatre

Please join us for a thought-provoking and enriching perspective of how natural resources are distributed, commodified, and consumed.
