Instrument Hire 2022

The following Hire Fee for the use of the School’s equipment will apply

  • Orchestral instruments (strings, brass, woodwind) – $100.00 per term
  • Piano  – $40.00 per term
  • Drumkit & Orchestral Percussion – $50 per term
  • Amp/Lead (Yr 10 to 12) – $20.00 per term

The school does not hire guitars. Guitarists must have their own instrument BEFORE commencing lessons. Guitars cannot be purchased on school accounts. Guitars must be clearly named.

Instrument cases and music items must be clearly named and stored securely, this is the student’s responsibility.

Instruments are hired out on the condition that they must be returned at the end of the year in the same condition as at the beginning of the year, taking normal wear and tear into account. Any damage to any hired instrument will be repaired and the cost of such repairs be charged to the student’s account. This shall be done at the discretion of the Director of Music.

Please note
The school takes no responsibility for instruments privately owned. It is advised that parents insure instruments and have them clearly named.

Storage & Music Lockers

Students may contact the Music School office at the start of term to arrange a locker for their instrument or music locker for music. Keys must be returned to the Music Department by the end of the student’s school year or a replacement fee of $8.00 will be charged to their account.

Music Practice

The Music School is open for practice in the following times:

  • Weekdays 7am – 8pm
  • Saturday 12pm – 4pm
  • Sunday 10am – 4pm

Examinations

We encourage students to progress their learning formally through the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) Practical and Theory examinations.  Parents will be notified if their child has been entered for an examination.

For those students not wishing to sit an AMEB examination an Internal Music Assessment may be arranged through the Music Department. Such assessments would be coordinated by the relevant instrumental music tutor and The Director of Music. Any accompanying fees would be charged to students’ accounts.

Discontinuation of Lessons

There is a 4 week cancellation policy for the discontinuation of lessons. Written notice is required, emailed to the campus Music Administrator or Director/Head of Music. The 4 week cancellation period will be calculated from the date that written notice is received. Lessons will continue to be scheduled for the remaining weeks. Please feel free to contact the Music office via email at music@ggs.vic.edu.au

Missed Lessons

The School’s contract with Music Tutors is to provide tuition at the highest standard. Unfortunately, unless we have more than 48 hours’ notice of a lesson cancellation (this includes illness) you will be charged for the lesson in question. Music Tutors are employed on a term-by-term basis and your payment pays for their predetermined time commitment for the term. We thank you for your understanding.
